Tornado Recovery – Westfield, MA

Hartley Bros. Landscaping, Inc. from Westfield, MA were contacted by this client after the Tornado on June 1, 2011. Dan Hartley worked closely with the customer and designed the area to be recovered. The homeowners requested all work be completed by the end of July so the Mr. & Mrs. could celebrate their 40th Birthdays.
Due to the extensive damage and other contractors on the premises clearing the property, Hartley Bros. were not able to begin their work until July 7th. Thankfully, the weather cooperated with us on this project deadline.
An existing 400 square foot concrete patio and steps damaged by the storm, trees and debris were removed first. Building forms were installed to support the new pavilion prior to the paver patio work. The new 8 foot wide steps and two retaining walls were built using the Brussels Dimensional Block in the Limestone Blend made by Unilock. A 38 foot long retaining wall was installed to the right of the steps and continues around the end of the pavilion while a 6 foot long wall was built to the left of the steps. Blue Ledgestone Coping in the Grey Blend will cap the steps and retaining walls. Yankee Cobble Pavers in the Quarry and Beacon Hill Blends were installed for the 520 square foot patio.
Hartley Bros. Landscaping, Inc. specializes in creative hardscaping and since our customer is an avid Boston Red Sox fan, the “B” logo was incorporated into the patio after our crew hand cut the pavers for the design. The crew also installed a circle pak in the center of the pavilion’s patio area.
A grill enclosure and bar area was built with the Brussels Dimensional Block in Limestone with Copthorne Burgundy Red Pavers as an accent. The counter top area is accented in the Autumn Sunset blend. The grill is a removable unit with a cabinet and an additional cabinet will be installed to the left of the grill. Included into the counter top is a small sink for the bar area.
